How the Rippling MCP works
We rebuilt the way AI agents talk to a system of record, resulting in up to 98% less token usage, model-generated code that stays governed when querying data, and cross-domain queries that won’t time out like other MCPs.

"@RipplingAI how many vacation days do I have left, and what's our policy on carrying them over?"
“I need a reorg proposal. Pull in the relevant Rippling context for this team: reporting lines, open roles, pending approvals, and recent changes. Summarize the risks I should consider.”
FAQs
What is the Rippling MCP?
The Rippling MCP is the governed connection layer that lets external AI agents like Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, and Gemini safely use Rippling data and tools. It gives agents a controlled way to act in Rippling using the employee’s real identity and permissions.
How does ask_ai work in the Rippling MCP?
ask_ai lets an external agent ask Rippling AI a natural-language question and receive a single grounded answer. It is read-only, runs on Rippling’s backend, respects the user’s permissions, and does not expose the underlying records to the external agent.
How is the Rippling MCP unique?
The Rippling MCP stands out because it uses Code Mode, strong governance, and custom objects. That combination lets agents run more reliable workflows, stay permission-bound, and create work that fits directly into how a company operates.
Why did Rippling choose Code Mode for the MCP?
Rippling chose Code Mode because one code tool is faster, more accurate, and easier to scale than exposing dozens of individual tools. The agent can write a short program, run the workflow in a sandbox, compute results before answering, and avoid repeated back-and-forth tool calls.
What can the Rippling MCP do?
The Rippling MCP can help external agents complete governed Rippling workflows across people and org data, time off, hiring, and custom objects. What a user can actually read or change depends on their own Rippling permissions and the admin-granted MCP access policy.
What is Rippling AI for Slack?
Rippling AI for Slack lets employees ask HR, IT, and payroll questions directly in Slack, using the same data and permissions as Rippling itself. Most employees don't log into Rippling every day — they live in Slack — so this puts answers where people already are.
How does Rippling AI for Slack work?
There are three ways to use Rippling AI in Slack:
- Direct message. Open a DM with the Rippling AI app and ask your question.
- Group DM. Add Rippling AI to a group conversation to get answers everyone in that DM can see.
- Channel mention. Tag @Rippling AI in any channel it's been added to.
- Rippling AI reads the thread it's mentioned in, including any shared files, and has access to any data in Rippling.
Does Rippling AI for Slack work the same as Rippling AI on the web?
Yes. The one difference is that Slack gives it thread context automatically.
Who can see answers from Rippling AI for Slack?
Rippling AI answers based on the permissions of whoever asks, so the same question can get different answers for different people. It doesn't check who else is in a channel before responding — if you ask in a channel or group DM, everyone there can see the response, even people without their own access to Rippling AI. Use a direct message for anything sensitive.
How do I get started with Rippling AI for Slack?
A Slack workspace admin installs Rippling AI from app.rippling.com/ai/settings/channels. Once it's installed, anyone in the workspace can add it to the channels and group DMs they want to use it in.
