How Rippling Builds World-Class Teams at Scale
Ask different Rippling customers what we do, and you will get very different answers. A payroll admin might say we are a payroll company. A recruiter might say we are an Applicant Tracking System. An IT admin might say we are device management. A CFO might say we are spend management.
The crazy thing is: they would all be right.
That is why we describe Rippling as a compound software company. Unlike our competitors, we are not building one product for one market. We have placed bets across many different markets and industries, with the distinct advantage of one underlying platform, shared data, and all the leverage that comes with it.
It is the equivalent of making bets on every number on a roulette wheel instead of just one. Our odds of success are exponentially higher. Every spin, something pays off.
This is part of the secret sauce behind Rippling’s sustained, incredible growth. It is a huge advantage. It is also what makes recruiting here so uniquely challenging.
We are hiring for many companies within the company. The same role can look very different depending on the product area, customer segment, or geo. And some roles require people to operate across multiple domains at once. That is a hard profile to find, and an even harder profile to assess.
Hiring for Product and Design at Rippling is a clear example. Most PMs and designers in the market have gone deep in one domain. They have worked on finance products, or HR products, or payroll products, or IT products. At Rippling, we need people who can move across multiple product areas, understand how different systems connect, and use the platform to solve very different business problems.
In other words, we are not just looking for a great finance PM. We are looking for a great PM who can work on almost anything.
That puts a lot of pressure on assessment. It is pretty straightforward to gauge whether someone knows a domain they have already worked in. It is much harder to determine whether their skills can translate across unfamiliar products, industries, and problem spaces they may not have seen before. That is part of what makes the opportunity exciting for the right candidate, but it also makes hiring meaningfully harder.
This is where our Senior Recruiting Manager, Julia Aybin, comes in. Julia led a much-needed overhaul of the technical Product & Design hiring process in late 2025. The catalyst was a surge in hires, but the driving motive behind the work was a need to be much sharper about what great looks like, and building an interview process that could actually measure it.
Julia led a transformation of the entire process. The team rebuilt what we were testing at each stage, recalibrated on what great looks like, tightened the scorecard, and made the interview process more consistent. We needed to evaluate for domain depth, but also for range. We needed people who could learn fast, connect systems, and operate in ambiguity without losing the thread.
And we had to do all of that without lowering the bar.
At Rippling, the talent bar is as high as I have ever seen. I know every company says this. Fair. No CRO has ever said, “Let’s go hire our competitors’ most mediocre sales reps.” But Rippling’s bar is legitimately different. We have recruiters come here from other well-respected, highly sought-after companies, and after a few months their reaction is usually some version of: “The profiles that worked at Company X do not fly here. This is a really high bar.”
So sacrificing quality is not an option. The recruiting process has to be built around that reality.
That is what made Julia’s work so important. The overhaul did two things: address scale by driving consistency and speed, but it also helped protect the bar. Better scorecards, clearer competencies, and tighter stage-by-stage calibration made it easier to distinguish between someone who looked good on paper and someone who could actually thrive in Rippling’s environment.
The results were obvious. Conversion rates more than doubled, and the team delivered over 200% of committed recruiting targets in the first half of 2026. Those numbers aren't abstract. They represent the teams we built behind some of Rippling's biggest bets this year — Banking, Data Cloud, and Rippling AI.
This does not happen by accident. It happens when the recruiting team has deep command of the profile, the hiring team is aligned on the bar, and everyone is willing to keep iterating until the process is working.
That last part is important. If something is not working, we don’t wait to change it. If the market is telling us something, or if the bar is getting wobbly, we pivot and make improvements fast. We decide quickly. We have very little ego about the current way of doing things, so we are always poking and questioning the status quo. Thankfully, when we make changes, we are right, a lot, but when we’re not, we are open to change our minds. These are literally our Rippling leadership principles, and we see them in action daily.
Rippling is not slowing down. We are moving upmarket, expanding globally, launching into new markets, and building AI deeper into both the product and the way we operate. That means the recruiting challenge here is only getting more complex — and the bar for the people we hire keeps getting higher.
That is what makes recruiting at Rippling different. The work requires speed, precision, and a high tolerance for ambiguity. The searches are hard, the bar is high, plans change, and we are often hiring for roles that did not exist before.
We have many examples of transformation driven by our recruiting leaders. We are keeping up with the company and driving the changes in how we hire. The leaders in our recruiting org are true SMEs in their domains. Resilient, open to change, and thankfully for me, a lot of fun to work with.
If you are energized by hard searches, high standards, and fast-moving plans, Rippling is a pretty special place to recruit. But the work is not easy, and it is definitely not slowing down. New bets keep paying off, and each one raises the bar for recruiting. We have to hire faster, hire more, and still get it right. It is hard, but that is the fun of it. For me, that is as good as it gets in this line of work.
