Meet Rebecca Wang, Software Engineer II at Rippling slash builder at heart who turns Legos into castles, recipes into feasts, and lines of code into tools that make work travel less painful. As part of Rippling’s Travel team, Rebecca spends her days creating seamless booking experiences and smarter support systems — all with the same curiosity and creativity she brings to building and cooking. Read her story for a glimpse into what growth, ownership, and work-life balance looks like at Rippling.

Building with curiosity

I love building things — whether it’s turning ingredients into a delicious dish, Lego pieces into castles (or Rivendell, if we’re going epic), or a bunch of letters and punctuation into working code. For me, it’s all about creating something exciting and exploring the world with curiosity. That builder’s mindset naturally feeds into my work at Rippling. Solving problems feels like tackling a new Lego set — a puzzle I get to figure out, improve, and make useful for real people.

Making work travel less painful

I’m part of Rippling’s Travel team. Basically, we make the annoying parts of work trips a little less painful. I build the UI — or “pretty computer visuals” as I describe to my family — that helps employees book flights, hotels, cars, and more, all in one place. We also make it easier for companies to set travel policies, so people don’t “accidentally” book the Ritz-Carlton or waste hours hunting for print receipts.

One project I’m proud of is improving our travel chat box. Booking support is critical when you’re stuck in a foreign airport past midnight. Since we can’t route every request to a human agent without slowing the system, we made the chat smarter; AI handles simple requests, like checking trip itineraries or canceling flights through our self-serve tools, while more complex issues get escalated to a human. It’s all about finding that sweet spot between speed and personal service.

In-person in Poland

Beyond the work, one of my favorite memories at Rippling was our June offsite in Poland. The entire Travel team came together — people from NYC, Bangalore, London, and beyond. With nearly half the team already based there, the vibe was electric.

We spent the week bouncing between brainstorming sessions, insightful presentations, and, honestly, way too much food (six meals a day might not be an exaggeration). Between wandering cobblestone streets that felt way too clean compared to New York and swapping stories late at night, ideas flowed faster. It was a refreshing break from the usual Zoom calls and that energy and connection carried back into our work.

Balancing life, speed, and ownership

Working at Rippling feels like being part of a small, fast-moving startup — even though the company has grown a lot. Our teams still feel tight-knit, and the impact of your work is visible right away. What surprised me most is how involved leadership is. Parker Conrad, our CEO, often jumps into threads with comments or feedback. It doesn’t feel like he’s some distant executive. He’s right there in the trenches with us.

On the day-to-day, succeeding at Rippling takes ownership. You own your projects, your results, and your time. The pace is quick, and crunch times definitely happen (like during our travel GA launch!). But even then, there’s a real sense of ownership and support. Everyone knows when it’s “go” time, and when it’s time to step back and recharge. If you value high-autonomy, clear communication, and the freedom to find a rhythm that works for you, join us!
